Panoramic Floyd County sprawls over a rolling terrain of approximately 2,500 feet in elevation, forming an elongated triangle that nestles between the spectacular Blue Ridge Parkway and two major interstate highways. Within Floyd County, the lack of four-lane highways is a reflection of the rural, friendly atmosphere that many find so appealing. Interstate 81 is only 10 miles from the county’s western border, while Routes 8 and 221 intersect in the center of the town of Floyd. In spite of this obviously small-town setting and sense of serenity, urban amenities and services remain easily accessible, including the world-class attractions in surrounding larger cities.
Floyd County stretches over 383 square miles to offer an unspoiled natural setting graced by lush greenery from dogwood and azalea to rhododendron and mountain laurel. It also provides a habitat for abundant wildlife including deer, fox, opossum, turkey, a wide variety of birds, and other native species. Home-cooked meals, porch swings, and the rich cultural legacy of a mountain heritage give Floyd County a very special sense of place. Hundreds of farms still grace picturesque Floyd County, one of the top hay producing areas in Virginia.
