ACADEMICS / PUBLIC EDUCATION
Already one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing school districts, Clark County School District continually meets population growth with the addition of schools. The district constantly explores innovative curricula that integrate hands-on mathematics, science activities, and whole-language approaches at the elementary level. Middle schools offer advancements like technology labs and are focused on meeting the specialized academic and emotional needs of adolescents.
High schools provide many extracurricular activities, career, and vocational training, and high-tech proficiency. Approximately two-thirds of the seniors in the Clark County School District go on to pursue some form of post-secondary education. Both SAT and ACT scores for the district equal or surpass national averages in all academic areas. The district is known for its gifted and talented scholars of distinction, its many advanced placement and international baccalaureate programs, and vocational or occupational programs that are available in a diversity of specializations.
Programs in computer literacy, self-esteem education, and substance abuse prevention include the Horizon Project, coordinating programs for high risk and dropout-prevention strategies. Diverse programming is also available for students with language difficulty and those with other special needs.

Registration Requirements
If your child is enrolling in a Clark County school for the first time, the items needed for registration will include proof of address in the form of a utility bill, rent receipt, mortgage papers, or a lease agreement. Driver’s licenses are not acceptable. If you are living with a friend or relative, you must bring a notarized statement signed by you and the owner/renter of the property where you are staying, indicating that it is your current place of residence. You will also need proof of the child’s identity in the form of a legal birth certificate, passport or baptismal certificate. No photo copies can be accepted.
Updated medical information includes physician-signed records indicating that your child has had, or at least has started, a series of immunizations against DPT, polio, measles, mumps and rubella in the prescribed intervals. The school your child will be attending will need to know about any previous placement in a special program or class and a recent report card or document that shows the name and address of the last school attended. Also helpful would be your child’s latest achievement test scores and complete information about any disability or health problems.
Bus service is provided to all students who live more than two miles from their schools, and hot lunches are available for purchase at all schools. Starting and ending times for the school day can vary. Some of the school districts in this area follow a year-round schedule instead of closing over the summer months. For details on schedules, contact your local school administration. If you are unsure about the school your child will be attending, contact:
