ACADEMICS / CHILD CARE RESOURCES
Securing comfortable and reliable day care for their children is one of the foremost priorities for working parents. Throughout Nevada and Clark County, licensed providers offer a full spectrum of options. The state licenses family care homes, group care homes, child care centers, nurseries for infants and toddlers, preschools, care for ill children, special needs facilities, on-site child care centers, on-site child care centers, outdoor youth programs and institutions. The Bureau of Services for Child Care functions statewide with a jurisdiction that includes all rural counties and the incorporated areas of Clark County.
Clark County’s Social Service Department maintains a database of licensed centers. Contact the office directly for assistance or visit the website for an online directory. The department offers referral listings as a convenience to residents of the entire area. Facilities that are included on the list are not endorsed in any way, but they must meet minimum standards established to protect children who are receiving care. It is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to make personal visits and evaluate a facility for its ability to meet the family’s needs and the needs of each child. Safekey Program
The Clark County Parks & Recreation Department manages a Safekey before and after-school enrichment program for elementary children. Safekey includes homework assistance, snacks and a wide variety of activities in a comfortable, safe environment. Parents can register for this program at each site in the multi-purpose room. Fees are paid weekly and parents are required to walk their children into the building and sign them in and out each day. A Therapeutic Safekey Program is available for children who are mentally or physically challenged. Teens can also take advantage of a program called The Edge that offers organized activities and guest speakers at select middle schools.
