Probably best known as the birthplace of Amelia Earhart, the town of Atchison maintains as a museum the restored Victorian home where Earhart was born. Dubbed as the “First City in Kansas,” Leavenworth is situated along the west banks of the Missouri River. The compound offers several historic sites including the Frontier Army Museum, Santa Fe and Oregon Trail cuts, the National Cemetery, and the Buffalo Soldiers Monument.
