Yale-New Haven Hospital
The 994-bed Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) is a tertiary referral center that includes the 201-bed Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital as well as the 76-bed Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. Serving as the primary teaching hospital for Yale University School of Medicine, the hospital is staffed by over 470 supervised house physicians who bring around-the-clock attention to patient care. The hospital consistently ranks among the nation’s finest, relying on the skills of 2,200 university-based and community physicians practicing more than 100 specialties. Yale-New Haven receives national and international referrals and is nationally recognized for its commitment to teaching and clinical research. The National Institutes of Health have recognized the hospital and its auxiliary facilities for the excellence of the Cancer Prevention Research Unit, Cancer Information Service Center, Comprehensive Cancer Service, Digestive Disease Research Center, Child Health Research Center, Children’s and Adults’ Clinical Research Centers, and Claude D. Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital
Historically, Yale-New Haven Hospital cared for more children than any other hospital in Connecticut. In 1993 the hospital opened the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital as Connecticut’s first comprehensive children’s hospital. Thousands of children receive inpatient, outpatient, emergency, primary, and preventive care at this facility—one of New England’s primary centers for diagnosing and treating pediatric problems.
