As part of Florida’s panoramic Treasure Coast region, Martin County invites newcomers to relax and enjoy the pleasures of a less-hurried way of life. Year-round temperate weather, abundant sunshine, affordable homes, and miles of unspoiled beaches that stretch out to meet the rushing surf are only a few of the Treasure Coast’s charms. Martin County is home to the incorporated municipalities of Stuart, Sewall’s Point, Ocean Breeze Park, and Jupiter Island. A number of unincorporated communities have also emerged in this scenic area like Hobe Sound, Palm City, and Jensen Beach.
One of Martin County’s top employers, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, operates a major manufacturing plant at Stuart Airport. Handling public and private aircraft and defense contracts, the firm has contributed to the region’s economic base since 1950. Martin County also is a leader in eggs, producing more than 11 million dozen annually. Tens of thousands of acres of citrus, sugar cane, vegetables, and ornamental plants are also under cultivation throughout this rural county. Newcomers can look forward to a country atmosphere in a beachfront environment that offers close proximity to major metropolitan attractions.
Services
An excellent education system serves area youth, managed by a progressive school board. Parents can also take advantage of opportunities for a private education for their children in independent or parochial schools. Indian River Community College is a leader within Florida’s community college system, creating a nationally recognized “tech prep” program and providing customized training programs for local employers. The education system includes institutions of higher education that offer four-year and graduate degree programs. The public institution of Florida Atlantic University and the private Barry University are close to home, although a number of other institutions are available within a reasonable commute.
Outstanding healthcare is provided by Martin Memorial Health Systems, providing advanced diagnostics and treatment to Martin County residents since 1939. From the original 23-bed hospital with 10 employees, the system has grown to encompass two hospitals staffed by nearly 3,000 associates and more than 400 physicians. Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in nearby Fort Pierce offers a 345-bed, acute-care facility serves as a regional referral center for the Treasure Coast area. The medical center’s obstetrics services are backed by a Level II Nursery and pediatric unit. Throughout the area, skilled professionals in every major specialty combine with specialty centers to meet every need.
Lifestyle
The nautical history of the Treasure Coast region is rich, colorful, and fascinating. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Lake Okeechobee on the west, and the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers converging at Sewall’s Point, this pristine area offers a lifestyle centered around the water. Residents enjoy more than 50 miles of beautiful, and in many cases, unspoiled beaches. Known as the Sailfish Capital of the World, the local waters are teeming with blue marlin, dolphin, kingfish, and mackerel. Newcomers can look forward to opportunities for boating, swimming, jet skiing, camping, and hiking. The backdrop of natural beauty is ideal for relaxing sports like canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.
Residents and newcomers are not the only ones enthralled with the diversity and natural beauty of this area. Martin County, in particular, has become a favored film location. The rocky coastline, dense jungle, posh waterfront homes, white Dover cliffs, sandy beaches, and western cattle ranches combine to offer images of breathtaking beauty—both natural and crafted. “Something for everyone” could never be truer than along Florida’s Treasure Coast. Whether your choice is a game of tennis, the latest movie, golfing on velvet courses, or shopping in a quaint boutique, Martin County has every amenity. Just 20 minutes from home, you can find the renowned Worth Avenue shopping district. Around every corner, Martin County invites you to discover the enviable quality of life and the friendly small communities of coastal South Florida.

Situated in the western section of Martin County, Palm City remains unincorporated in spite of its ability to attract thousands of new residents in recent years. Families, professionals, and retirees are lured to the area by the attractive master-planned communities and upscale condominiums—many of which are located along the serene banks of the St. Lucie River. The site for many annual events in the County, Palm City is subtly transforming into a vital community within Martin County. One of Martin County’s few incorporated communities, the town of Sewall’s Point is known for its magnificent homes along the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers. The quaint area features a generous amount of commercial development as well, and a number of quality schools and medical centers are located close by including Martin Memorial Hospital South. In addition to the lavish housing in the community, upscale retail shopping, a gourmet shop and several fine dining establishments can be found in the downtown Harbour Bay Plaza on East Ocean Boulevard, otherwise known as the business district. With its limited population, Sewall’s Point is strictly a stable, single-family, residential community that features quiet streets and little opportunity for multi-family accommodations. Located on the A1A, nearby amenities are convenient yet enough removed to ensure the private and serene lifestyle preferred by local residents. Hutchinson Island and Jensen Beach, both within driving distance, offer numerous recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
